Dr. Stephen Vincent Strange was once an extremely talented but egotistical surgeon who loses the ability to operate after a car crash severely damages his hands beyond repair. Searching the globe for healing, he encountered the Ancient One, the Sorcerer Supreme. Strange becomes his student and learns to be a master of both the mystical and the martial arts.

History[]

Early Life[]

Dr. Stephen Strange was a world-renowned neurosurgeon but an arrogant one at that, that is until an accident severely damaged the nerves in his hands, thus ending his surgical career. Strange used the last of his fortune to seek the help of Ancient One to repair his hands.

Eventually, the Ancient One taught Strange how to tap the innate mystic powers of himself and the world around him and became the Sorcerer Supreme, making him the most powerful human sorcerer on Earth. He lives in his mansion, the Sanctum Sanctorum in Greenwich Village, which was cloaked by his magic.

Strange Days[]

The Demon known as Nightmare cast a sleeping spell over New York City. Dr. Strange enlisted the help of Iron Fist. He questioned Iron Fist's choice in bringing Spider-Man with him. Doctor Strange explained to them that it was the work of Nightmare and claimed that faith had brought Spider-Man to be with them.

He takes Spider-Man and Iron Fist to the Dimension of Dreams to confront Nightmare. Dr. Strange fought against Nightmare, his horse Dreamstalker, and his army of Demons, who overpowered him. Dr. Strange starts to believe that he was too weak against Nightmare and lost his magical powers. He was convinced by Spider-Man that it was just a dream and regained his powers, and together, they seal Nightmare in a magic box.

After they defeated him, Dr. Strange thanked Iron Fist and Spider-Man and reminded them to go back to Midtown High School before anyone figured out where they had gone (See Ultimate Spider-Man (Animated Series) Season 1 13).

Journey of the Iron Fist[]

An astral projection of Doctor Strange floats by Iron Fist and Spider-Man says hello to the two heroes. Iron Fist reveals that they are astral neighbors (See  Ultimate Spider-Man (Animated Series) Season 2 13).

Widow’s Run[]

To determine what to do with the Infinity Stones in the Avengers' possession, Black Widow convinces them to turn to Doctor Strange for help since she had a vision that Doctor Strange wouldn't be tempted by the powers of the Infinity Gems. Strange tells the Avengers that he has been forewarned about the Infinity Gems' powers which are causing danger to reality and even affecting the mystic realms. When Dormammu and the Mindless Ones emerge from the portal, Strange helps the Avengers fight them until Black Widow uses the powers of the Infinity Gems to send Dormammu and the Mindless Ones back to the Dark Dimension. After Black Widow broke free from the Infinity Gems' influence, Strange was present when Thanos arrived and claimed all the Infinity Gems which he places in his Infinity Gauntlet before leaving.

Doctor Strange is one of the potential Avengers recruits. Iron Man located him via J.A.R.V.I.S. in New York.

Appearance[]

Personality[]

Before the tragic accident that damaged his hands, Stephen was a highly talented neurosurgeon with an intelligent but pompous attitude and a huge ego. He was fueled by ambition, arrogance, and stubbornness. However, after his accident and becoming the Master Of The Mystic Arts, Stephen grew an orderly mind and learns to strategize his magical attacks during battle. Another good trait he shows is that Stephen shows extreme determination during his time at Kamar-Taj and learns the art of modesty, pushing aside his once prideful self. Because he was trained as a doctor, Strange is more a pacifist and avoids violence or murder.

Powers[]

Sorcery: As the Sorcerer Supreme, Doctor Strange is Earth's most powerful and skilled magic-user. He draws his powers from various mystical entities such as Agamotto, Cyttorak, the Faltine, Ikonn, Oshtur, Raggadorr, the Seraphim, and Watoomb. He also uses magical artifacts, including the Cloak of Levitation, which enables him to fly; the Eye of Agamotto, whose light is used to negate evil magic; the Book of the Vishanti, which contains knowledge of white magic; and the Orb of Agamotto, which is used as a crystal ball.

  • Spell Casting: He can easily cast many spells, either verbal or through gestures, for a variety of effects.
  • Thermokinesis: He was able to cast the heat of "The Seven Suns of Cinnibus" onto Dormammu, which manifested as a fiery beam.
  • Mystical Energy Blasts: He was able to cast mystical energy blasts on the Mindless Ones, which could instantly destroy each of them.
  • Mystical Energy Constructs: He was able to create a mystical energy chain for his battle against the Mindless Ones. Additionally, he conjured energy whips to attack and destroy several Mindless Ones.
  • Astral Projection: Doctor Strange can release his astral form from his body, instantaneously and at will. In this form, he does not need to breathe, eat, drink or sleep, is unrestricted by physical laws, is invisible (though can be seen by any if he wished it so), intangible, and incapable of being harmed by all but the most powerful and rigorous of mystic means.
  • Telekinesis: He was able to destroy some of the Mindless Ones with a quick hand gesture, as well momentarily binding Thanos and dispersing fireballs thrown at him by Dormammu.
  • Precognition: He claimed to have foreseen the arrival of the Avengers.
  • Supernatural Perception: He was able to fully realize the true power of the Infinity Stones.
  • Supernatural Senses: He was aware of the imbalance of the mystic world caused by the struggle for the Infinity Stones.
  • Flight/Levitation: He has been seen flying during his fight against Dormammu and his minions.
  • Superhuman Durability: When Black Widow hit him with an energy blast that knocked him onto a car with great speed, he was only momentarily stunned, without any visible injuries.

Abilities[]

  • Genius-Level Intellect: He is very smart.
  • Indomitable Willpower: He was immune to the Infinity Stones' corruption effect.

Weaknesses[]

Paraphernalia[]

As the Sorcerer Supreme, Strange possesses numerous magical artifacts that can amplify his power.

Equipment[]

  • The Eye of Agamotto: The Eye is only used for order or "white" magic.
  • The Cloak of Levitation: Cloaks of Levitation grant the wearer the ability to float and fly, far more effectively than using a flight spell.
